What is Film Flam? Movie reviews and other movie information.

I was inspired to make this page by listening to the Rod Lurie show which used to air on KABC radio in Los Angeles. Rod always said that his show is the one place where your (meaning the listening audience) opinion on film matters. While that's not entirely true, since our opinions matter at the box office as well, his statement best illustrates how most film criticism works.

With a few notable exceptions, the majority of film critics who get quoted in movie ads these days are entertainment reporters. How does one become an entertainment reporter? Look good on camera and never ask the really tough questions of the celebrities you interview seems to be the easiest way. But most of them don't seem to have a good grasp of film.

How am I any different? I think I have the right qualifications. I didn't go to film school, but I'm an aspiring screenwriter. I see lots of movies. I write down my opinions of what did and didn't work because it aids in my own screenwriting. If those aren't good enough reasons, then the best reason is because I'm taking the time to make a web page and post movie reviews on it.

Not too long ago, the American Film Institute (AFI) put out a list of the Top 100 American Films of the first century of American film-making. Here is my list of 100 Worst American Films that were never made.

Eventually I'll have a bio page. The movies are the thing that's important though, not me.
