An attempt to create a new twist on the old story of the lover's triangle that doesn't make the grade. Dylan McDermott is the creator of this triangle, as a rich Chicago tycoon whose wife is making it difficult for him to spend as much time with his stunning mistress (Neve Campbell). He asks architect Oscar Novak (Matthew Perry of Friends fame) to keep an eye on the mistress, figuring that since Oscar is gay, he won't be a threat. Problem is that Oscar isn't gay. Now if the premise didn't catch you, none of the jokes here really will.
That's a shame because the backstory here of a straight man trying to deal with the world suddenly being completely convinced he is gay is engaging and thought provoking. Perry's Novak manages to say enough thought-provoking things as an allegedly gay man that he's given an award by a Gay and Lesbian group because of how well he conducts himself.
The humor here is average and the story not as entertaining as Perry's one quality movie thus far (Fools Rush In), but it wouldn't be a bad date movie since there are so few other romantic comedies out there at this time of year. But you'd probably be more entertained if you rented a better quality comedy and stayed home. You'd save money too.
