Even though most are bad, I happen to enjoy teen movies. Not just so that I can muse wistfully about youth, long lost, but because they are almost always energetic and fun. Even when they're bad. Fortunately, 10 Things wasn't bad. Then again, even the worst adaptations of the works of Shakespeare aren't usually bad, because they have the benefit of a very strong story. In this case, the story from Taming of the Shrew.
Director Gil Junger has an extensive list of directing credits in television, but this was his feature debut. Happily, the jump from the small screen to the big one was made with relative ease. While there were a few scenes in the film that had that "sitcom series" feel to them, they were very few and far between. This was definitely a feature and felt like one. I point this out only because many television directors cannot easily make the leap to the large screen.
I looked at the credits of the actors who had the four major roles and I didn't recognize much that I've seen, but I will say their work in 10 Things was good. Whether that was Junger's work in directing them, their own talents, or a combination of the two, I don't know. I just know they were good. Allison Janney (The Big Night, The Impostors, Drop Dead Gorgeous) is perfect as counselor Ms Perky.
A winner of a movie.
